Megan took the time to honor the patient, their loved ones, and the nursing staff involved with his care.
We recently had a patient who was waiting for a heart transplant and unfortunately passed due to complications with a balloon pump. It was the patient's wish to be an organ donor, but due to circumstances, the patient passed. Megan served as a liaison and advocate for the patient and their family, a representative to Life Banc, and a logistics coordinator between the unit and OR. Her exceptional care and articulation not only provided the necessary means to best serve the patient, but her address to the family following the patient's passing was also truly remarkable. This was evidenced by her ease of formulating a team of nurses to expedite care, but also her communication and relation to those colleagues.

Megan implemented a very powerful tool that we use in the ICU setting for patients and their families known as "the pause." She took the time to honor the patient, their loved ones, and the nursing staff involved with his care. It was a marked moment in the shift but also an exemplar of the dedication and integrity of Megan's nursing practice. Following the pause, she took time to seek out and comfort colleagues who were involved with the patient care.

I left that day feeling overwhelmingly honored to have the privilege of working with such an incredible nurse. Megan sets a high standard of nursing excellence and exemplifies the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse.
