Melina Hernandez was our son's nurse in the Cardiac ICU North Unit. She was the first person my wife and I spoke to when we got to see our son after his open heart surgery. It was clear that she cared deeply for his and our comfort and care. She answered all of our questions thoroughly and professionally while at the same time administering care to our son.

I ended up staying the night in ICU and Melina made sure I was comfortable and that I was aware at every moment what she was doing and why. I witnessed her in action over the next 12 hours. As a retired U.S. Marine I know what attention to duty, honor, courage and commitment looks like. I was pleased to see it carried out in this ICU by Melina.

Melina was diligent in her duties, always available and seemed to know just what our son needed at every moment. She was with him for many hours and never seemed to tire. Indefatigable is the word that describes her work ethic and compassion exemplifies her personality. She was very supportive of his efforts as he did those hard things needed to progress. Her support was fantastic. My son was able to progress quickly in the ICU due to her professionalism and compassion.
