Melissa went above and beyond to make sure that this patient drove to the ER and that he walked into the ER and got the help he needed.
Our clinic received a MyChart message, and our nurse noticed some concerning red flags. She called the patient and was compassionate, caring, and really was a good listener. She talked with this patient, who was actively suicidal, he had stated that he had a plan and his MyChart message was his last reach out for help. This nurse really took the extra time to get all the information needed to get him the help he really needed.
Patient was very hesitant to go to the ER and kept saying "okay, I will go" and when this nurse continued to talk with the patient, he really wasn't going to go, and this was really concerning for his safety. The patient stated that he didn't have anyone to talk to and this nurse made a point to be this person's person to talk with and make sure that he was safe.
This nurse went above and beyond to make sure that this patient drove to the ER and that he walked into the ER and got the help he needed. She stayed on the phone with him and talked him through all the steps he needed to do so that he took that initiative to walk into the ER. Once he was in the ER, she disconnected the call. Patient was admitted for the care he needed.
This nurse is always going above and beyond, easing the patient's way, to take the best care for our patients. She advocates for her patients, she is the one to speak up for changes to happen for the better of the team, she strives for excellence and wants what is best for the community and our patients. "Know me, care for me, ease my way."
