Melissa Hughes helped facilitate a memorial service for a grieving woman in labor who was missing her grandfather's funeral. Her water broke while she was getting her great grandmother ready for the funeral, at only 33 ½ weeks. Melissa helped get her ready to say goodbye to the grandfather who helped raise her and say hello to her firstborn.
Then Melissa threw together an impromptu bedside wedding ceremony because the couple meant to get married at the courthouse, but they couldn't because that was the day her grandfather passed away. She made a dress out of sheets for the bride and arranged the acquisition of flowers and something borrowed, something blue... Melissa is a true example of a DAISY Nurse as she routinely demonstrates outpouring care and compassionate support for her patients and families.
