I was in the ER when I broke my foot and needed a blood transfusion. I was very scared and unsure what the outcome would be. Melissa was my nurse, and she was floating in the ER for the first time. She could tell I was scared and worried. She immediately comforted me and assured me I was in good hands and that she would be there to help me. Being alone and having a lot of things quickly happening in the room, she held my hand and explained some things they were going to do. She put me at ease, knowing fully the treatment plan as they were given. She kept me preoccupied by asking about my family, hobbies, firefighting etc. She made sure my children were notified and assured me that she would stay with me until they arrived. Having her there with me during those scary times, reassuring me, comforting me, and being honest about all the things they needed to do to help me was so comforting, and by the time my children arrived, she had me laughing and feeling optimistic. I was admitted, and without her reassurance and positive attitude, my experience would have been extremely scary.

On my third day of being in the hospital, she came in to check on me. She sat and talked to me for a few minutes… how thoughtful of her. It truly showed me that she cared. She is an amazing nurse; everything she did for me was greatly appreciated and didn’t go unnoticed. Hands down, she is the best nurse I’ve had… what a great person! She’s kind, caring, honest, and compassionate. Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough for the gratitude I have for her. Melissa cares about her patients and goes over and beyond for them.
