Meredith jumped in to help until a first line medication was given and the seizure was resolved.
I was coming onto a day shift, receiving charge report from Meredith after what had already been an eventful night for her. The department had called a Care Team for one patient and had transferred another to PICU. We had barely gotten through report when we were alerted to a patient seizing. Meredith jumped in to help until a first line medication was given and the seizure was resolved. Shortly after, we had another patient start seizing. Meredith continued to help off-going and on-coming bedside nurses (and me) to retrieve another 1st line rescue medication and remained available. Immediately after we were able to resolve the patient's seizure another patient had an order for an X-ray, which would require 2 RNs for transfer due to medical complexity. Meredith stayed on the unit to offer support an hour after her shift had ended and gave medications for the nurse who had to go down with me and her patient to radiology. Despite an already tough night, Meredith went above and beyond to help the shift change transition safely and helped keep the bedside nurses from falling behind first thing in the morning while transporting patients and managing seizure events.
