I was recently admitted early Monday morning through the ER for a bacterial infection and was inpatient until Tuesday afternoon. During my brief stay, I had a nurse named Miriam for both day shifts. She was part of the float pool. She is far and away the best clinical care I have ever received, to include doctors, NPs, RNs, techs, etc.
In addition to being exceptional at her job, as much of the Swedish staff is, Miriam is kind, compassionate, empathetic, and funny. Throughout my anaphylactic response to vancomycin, she was calm, comforting, efficient and effective. I asked for nothing, because she was always a step ahead, going above and beyond the formal job description, as kindness seemed to come naturally.
Anyone fortunate enough to be under her care may want to stay just for the feelings of safety and security she brings to those in need.
