Mohamed Amer has touched so many staff members and patients in such a positive way throughout the hospital that we cannot express fully the feeling there is for this individual within our St. Francis family.
He started at St. Francis in 2015. With minimum critical care experience, started his training and critical care skills development in the ICU. It soon became apparent that at St. Francis, we had an exceptional nurse who has not only grown clinical expertise in his area and shared with his coworkers but also has shown to be both kind and compassionate with patients and staff members alike. I do not think there is an area in the hospital that does not know this nurse, who we all fondly all know as Mo, or has not been touched by his unique persona.
The only way to express what an exceptional nurse Mo Amer is, is to share with you just a few of the many personal experiences.
ICU RN
In the ICU his coworkers never worry that the care of our critical patients will be delayed or compromised in any way. Mo attends to his critical care patients and those of his team with a calming demeanor always compassionate and caring. When working in critical situations Mo always demonstrates the importance of shared values with his team members and colleagues.
As MCCN RN
Mo partners well with leaders on each floor, checking in at their office with a smile on his face and ready to face the day.
Mo works with the nurses when he is MCCN, making rounds on the units and addresses everyone's concerns, talking to the nurses identifying if there are any high-risk patients, building trust and developing competence among others to maintain our patients' safety.
One example from FLC when Mo was MCCN, a patient experienced post-partum hemorrhage and lost approximately 1500cc of blood and needed to go to IR, knowing the urgency of the situation Mo himself expedited getting the patient to IR. The FLC team credit Mo with saving this patient's life and Mo is now part of the Obstetrical Hemorrhage team helping develop protocols and education for perinatal nurses.
With our Patients
Mo's compassion for his patients must also be recognized. In ED Mo's compassion was witnessed when an elderly unconscious patient needed to be quickly intubated, it was shared that Mo held this woman's hand through intubation and blood draws reassuring her all the time and not leaving her side, it was commented that staff saw this as one of the most selfless beautiful moments they had ever witnessed.
Mo exudes as much a true love for nursing and his patients as his coworkers-- and everyone he touches exude for him.
Mo upholds the values of the organization and demonstrates the values of a DAISY Nurse. Mo exemplifies the St. Francis mission "Our mission is you".
