Molly was professional, compassionate, genuinely cared and was understanding in a difficult time. My very close friend, who I also consider to be part of my extended family, passed away recently. Molly was on duty for many of the days that I visited my friend.I would also like to mention that all the staff including the nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, Unit Secretary, and Hospice were caring, attentive, and a pleasure to deal with.
My friend had been on the 2nd floor for almost 2 weeks after a brief ICU stay. He was under Hospice care for the last few days. My friend's daughter lives in Colorado and was not able to be there for her father in his last days. I had indicated to Molly earlier during the week to contact me if the time for my friend was getting close, and I would come to be with him. She assured me that this would be known to all the staff, regardless of what shift. This provided me with some peace of mind. I have lost 4 family members, two of them in Hospice care, and I know that the final hours come quickly.
Molly was the nurse supervisor on duty when my friend passed. I had stepped out of the room to stretch my legs and wasn't gone for more than 6-7 minutes. When I returned, my friend had passed in the short few minutes that I was gone. I went to the desk and told Molly that I thought he had stopped breathing. She immediately went to the room and confirmed this. She told me to take as much time as I needed with my friend.
Molly was always accommodating, not only to my friend's needs, but also mine. Her calm presence in a time of sorrow and loss was so comforting to me, especially since this situation brought back many memories of my family members that have since passed. Molly's compassion, understanding, and support helped me make a very sad day a little better, and I truly thank her for that.
