She brought small bottles of shampoo and conditioner to work with her and washed and dried my hair, all while I was unable to move in the bed.
I was admitted to Memorial Hospital Gulfport in July for a postpartum hemorrhage. I had to have an emergency hysterectomy and ended up in the ICU for a few days. That was the first day I met this nurse. She was so kind and even through sedation and being intubated, she found ways to help me communicate. She was such a calming and reassuring presence. Throughout my stay in the ICU, I was lucky to have her for three days. She always made sure I was comfortable, fed me ice chips, kept my pain management at bay and even gave me a bath in my hospital bed. My favorite part of her kindness was that she washed my hair while I was lying in bed. She brought small bottles of shampoo and conditioner to work with her and washed and dried my hair, all while I was unable to move in the bed. She even braided my hair so that it didn’t get matted while lying down for so long. She answered every question my family and friends asked, updated the doctor every few hours on my situation, and came urgently anytime I called. While all the nurses in the ICU were incredible in their own ways, she stood out above all the rest.
