She constantly checked on me until the end of her shift, which was well past the normal time to go home.
I was placed in the WACU after having a recent surgery. Mona immediately began with the routine after-surgery vitals, information, and pain level. I was looking forward to my first meal post-surgery when I soon became nauseous. Mona advised that if I needed pain medication, it might be best to administer it through the IV so that it would not irritate my stomach and that it might be good to take something for the nausea. It didn’t look like I would be able to eat my supper at that point, so later in the evening, as I was feeling better, Mona went to the Dietary department and got me cereal and milk. I couldn’t believe she took the time out of a very busy unit to do that! She constantly checked on me until the end of her shift, which was well past the normal time to go home. She exceeded my expectations by the care she gave to me. I am so glad that there is a program that recognizes nurses that go above and beyond for their patients. Mona well deserves this award.
