DAISY honors extraordinary nurses in a variety of ways. The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for those who have devoted their life’s work to the compassionate care of others. Make no mistake, this does not occur solely at the bedside. A DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award winner creates an environment of trust, ethical behavior, mutual respect, and continued professional development. The recipient for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement award for St. Lucie Medical Center is a beacon of inspiration for nurses at all stages of their careers. The Nurse Leaders at St Lucie Medical Center agreed that this very special DAISY Award would be a great way to commemorate and celebrate Nancy Hilton’s 40 devoted years to nursing with HCA. We all took the time to put our sentiments and appreciation for having Nancy as our CNO and leader into words. Here is just a bit of what the Nurse Leaders had to say:
Nancy motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for their patients. Our CNO is one who stands far above the rest. She has poured her heart into her work and has always exemplified what it means to be a servant leader. Through the pandemic, Nancy showed perseverance when we needed it most. She worked tirelessly to make sure that the staff of the hospital had all of the supplies and PPE needed to remain safe while caring for COVID patients. Because of her outstanding leadership, every nurse in the building is better, which makes every patient and family better.
Nancy is committed to serving our staff, patients/families, and community through compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence. Her way of connecting with staff and making them feel heard and valued is something that sets her apart. Nancy expects the highest performance from herself and others, and this drives her and her teams’ many achievements. She has her finger on the pulse of everything going on and supports safety, progress, and a better future.
Many years ago, Nancy shared her vision for SLMC with all of our staff. The three points of a triangle represented the partnership each has with the other to drive care excellence; and through this vision, collaborative efforts with varying talented colleagues equals a commitment to excellent care by all. When pondering what to do in difficult circumstances, we all stop and think “What would Nancy do”? It was truly an honor and a privilege to present Nancy Hilton, St. Lucie Medical Center’s CNO, with this incredibly special DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
