I contacted Access Health to make an appointment with my family doctor. I left a message with the message center staff advising of my symptoms. I received a return call shortly thereafter from Nancy Johnson, my doctor’s nurse. She advised me that the doctor was out of the office.

After reiterating my symptoms for the previous few days, Nancy advised me to go to the ER immediately. I questioned if that was really necessary. Nancy insisted I follow her advice and leave for the ER immediately. Because of her persistence, I did go to Avera ER immediately where they determined I had a rather large brain aneurysm. I was sent to Sioux Falls Avera Brain Institute and had life-saving surgery the following morning.

My surgeon advised my family and myself that Nancy’s attention to my symptoms and her insistence that I get to the ER saved my life. I owe my life today to God and Nancy’s prompt attention and assessment of my symptoms. Please recognize and commend Nancy. My family and I are forever grateful.
