Nancy Logan was my nurse for the 7:00 am – 7:00 pm shift. She is an exceptional nurse and a lovely person. She goes about her nursing (medical) responsibilities efficiently. But she does so much more than that. She has a ready smile and a gentle nature. She patiently answered my questions; she laughed with me. She “caught” me doing yoga in my room. When I invited her to join me, she light-heartedly did so for a couple of minutes.

When she walked into my room, I had no doubt that she was focused on me. Because I was fully ambulatory, I could walk down the hall. One time, when one of my heart monitor connectors came loose (yes, I was doing some yoga), I walked down the hall to get her rather than using the call button. As I approached her with the connector swinging in my hand, she came toward me laughing and said, “What have you done?” I probably broke some rules by going to her rather than using the call button but she calmly and laughingly came with me back to my room. Instead of pushing the connector back onto the pad on my chest, she said, “I don’t want to have to push on you hard enough to reattach this. I’m going to replace the pad”. ..which she promptly did. That probably took a couple of additional minutes but that wasn’t the point for her. As her patient, my comfort was more important to her than those couple of minutes.

Nancy is one of the special people on 5 North. As I told you, I feel so fortunate that I was assigned to a room on that hall. I appreciate everyone on the hall who took care of me. As my nurse during the day shift, I saw Nancy more than the other 5 North members. I was blessed to have her taking care of me.
