We were greeted on the unit with a big smile and introductions were made. Nicole took the time to make my brother and my family feel like we were her only patient and visitors. She reviewed care and meds that she would be providing, oriented him to the room and the plan of care. She took time to talk to him, to encourage him to call for any needs he had, to ask him if he had any questions, etc. She did a thorough assessment and anticipated his needs before he asked.
Nicole made the difference between a good stay and a not so good stay in a healthcare facility. Nurses who make a positive impact and a positive outcome are the ones that remind the patient or the patient's family how much they love their profession and that they are in healthcare for all the right reasons. Nicole was nurturing, caring, compassionate, and had a smile and sense of humor that put everyone at ease.
