Today in the EC, we had a homeless patient that was being discharged and had been transferred from another place without any clothes or shoes. Nicolle overheard me speaking with the primary nurse as she was telling me that he has nothing. We were able to get him a pair of scrubs and we were about to go to the store to buy him shoes when Nicolle gave us the shoes off her feet. Luckily they fit and she became shoeless and sent that man out into the cold with warm feet. This is a huge gesture and most people will not offer to do so, but Nicolle did without hesitation. I offered to go and buy her new shoes and she refused. I believe that so many nurses that work in my unit would do the same in this situation. I even took a picture of Nicolle shoeless in my office to prove how selfless she was. I am proud to work with Nicolle and to have her in our department. She greatly deserves this award.
