Olivia has invaluable clinical knowledge and sound judgment about patient care across the continuum, which supports her to excel in her role. Daily she goes above and beyond for both team members and patients alike. She has a calm demeanor and warm smile, which empowers her to manage complex patients with such ease that helps alleviate stress for the team, patients, and family.
An example of this would be when a patient who lived alone came in for an elective total hip. This patient had planned to discharge to a rehab facility but due to insurance was declined. The patient was already very anxious about going home with Home Health and limited income. She made the time to sit down with the patient to help address all of his needs. She worked with the PA to adjust his blood thinner dose so that he would be able to get this free for 30 days rather than having to pay out of pocket when he was already financially strained. She takes the time to get to know her patients and identify their unique needs.
Olivia has excellent communication and leadership skills. She has also been an integral piece to several process improvements on the unit she serves. She has been a backbone for more streamlined processes. An example of this was when the unit first opened, she created a discharge board. This has helped with physical therapy, nursing, and providers to know which patients were being discharged and what they needed prior to leaving. It has helped facilitate a more efficient flow on the unit and communication with the interdisciplinary team. Physical therapy knows which patients to see first, so that nursing knows which patients will be discharged, and then which beds will be available for admissions from the OR.
Olivia's dedication to the community she serves is why she is a true DAISY Nurse. She is an Extraordinary Nurse who goes above and beyond for every patient, every time.
