Paige was assigned to a patient who had been on the unit for 35 days. He was confined to his room because of oxygen needs. He had also been confused and restless, requiring a safety sitter to keep him from falling due to his impulsiveness and lack of mental acuity to use his call bell.

On this particular day, he had improved enough that his oxygen supplementation could be supplied on a portable tank, at least briefly. Paige thought he might benefit from an excursion outdoors, so she got a wheelchair, portable telemetry, and oxygen and took him for a ride to the healing garden. He loved it so much he began singing gospel songs. After about 30 minutes, the patient returned, looking happier than I had seen him. I think if he had the mental capacity, he would write this nomination for Paige himself – I am just the “ghostwriter.”
