I knew Pamela had a special sparkle when she came to work with Hospice, but I did not see how bright the sparkle was until she worked with my parents. Where she REALLY shines is with a pediatric patient.
Several weeks ago, we received a pediatric referral. Pamela is our primary pediatric hospice nurse. She did extra research to make sure she not only knew about the disease but she also educated her co-workers, as they do not receive many pediatric referrals and this is her area of expertise. After initiating care with the patient, Pamela knew she was going to be going on a 2-week vacation in a few weeks. She spoke with another Hospice nurse and took her out to meet the patient, family, and private caregiver. She provided detailed instructions for all parties in her absence. She wanted her co-workers, the patient, and the family to feel safe with the continuity of care. By taking the time to coordinate with the family and the Hospice team everyone involved was more comfortable with the care of this special patient in her absence.
