Patrice was caring for a patient in the neuroscience unit after being diagnosed with a stroke. The patient's spouse was very anxious about the patient's diagnosis and prognosis as she visited her husband daily. The patient's spouse noted that all her anxiety was erased after she came in contact with Nurse Patrice as she took care of her husband. Nurse Patrice ensured that she conducted bedside reports daily, allowing the patient and spouse to ask questions and provided information and education on the plan of care during the hospitalization and discharge planning to home.

She was easily accessible and provided reassurance to my spouse when he needed encouragement to complete activities of daily living which now was a big challenge. Nurse Patrice's kind words were a gentle reminder for him to participate in the physical/occupational therapists' regime and comply with the plan of care from all the care providers. We both left the hospital feeling empowered to care for my husband post-discharge.

Patrice was noted by the patient's spouse as a gold standard of what a nurse should be, always explaining procedures to the patient and family and making the patient/family feel comfortable and safe.
