Her excellent clinical and communication skills help to ensure the students meet program goals and achieve success, not only at the end of the program, but also after they begin their new roles.
Patricia Alban has been a key leader in Clinical Professional Development as the Site Coordinator for the Nurse Residency Program. She is also instrumental in her role as a clinical educator for 3 East Telemetry, coverage for the Emergency Department, and assisting Clinical Professional Development in both planned educational programs and just-in-time education needs. She is an instructor for the Community Training Center for ACLS, BLS, and PALS. For many years, she has volunteered her time to provide community education for hands-only CPR. Pat exemplifies professional practice by maintaining three certifications which demonstrates excellence in her nursing practice.
Pat also demonstrates acts of caring and compassion every day to the patients on 3 East and throughout the organization. The nominator has witnessed Pat round on units, answer call bells and provide care to patients; from providing a blanket to assisting in emergency events. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pat readily changed her shift in order to meet the needs of the organization and supported the clinical staff on the night shift. She was nominated as a Nurse Educator of the Year in 2019 and 2021 and was a nominee, along with the department, for the Presidential Nominee for the Northwell Health Teamwork Eastern Division. Last year, Pat participated in the writing of six abstracts for submission to national conferences. She also worked on the submission for the Northwell NPD Annual Conference which was a podium presentation in June 2023.
From November 2020 to February 2021, Pat worked tirelessly with Marsha Deckman to write and submit the PTAP Self Study Document. This 500-page document was submitted to the ANCC PTAP staff, reviewed by the appraisers and accepted without rewrites. A successful site survey followed and Mather Hospital’s PTAP achieved accreditation with distinction. Pat, as the Site Coordinator, successfully runs this program, enculturates the new graduate nurses, and engages them to complete an evidence-based practice project - all within one year! She holds monthly meetings with the new graduates to continue to develop their professional practice while also encouraging their peer development and relationship building. She is a team builder.
Pat has participated in regulatory surveys and worked with Quality to help achieve clear communication to support the mission of the organization and maintain positive outcomes. She is a primary instructor for Mather Hospital’s Nurse Aid Training Program. Her excellent clinical and communication skills help to ensure the students meet program goals and achieve success, not only at the end of the program, but also after they begin their new roles.
Pat has the ability to promote resilience and quality, patient and staff safety, and maintain management of human and fiscal resources while always supporting team members through challenges with compassion and humanity.
