My wife and I were called by the pediatrician around 8 pm and told we needed to bring our 6-day-old son into the ER immediately because of high bilirubin levels. When we got into a room in the ER that night, Patty came in to do his IV, and her calming presence put us at ease during a situation that was scary for us as parents. Even though my wife is a nurse, Patty still made sure to explain everything to us and answer all our questions. She was gentle, skilled, and efficient. The IV was completed swiftly, and my son actually slept through the whole process. She went to a different pediatric floor, found the special lights he needed, and taught us all about them so we were educated and comfortable with the treatment he was receiving. Patty treated my son with care and respect, and she deserves recognition for being an Extraordinary Nurse.
