Nurses trained by Tricia have turned out to be some of the best nurses we have.
Tricia has been with Banner for a couple of years and has been such an amazing asset to our team. Tricia does it all. One of the many roles she has taken on is Charge RN. This role is such a demanding one, but Tricia accepted the challenge and hit the ground running. Whether she is running both units, 1 unit, or in the count and running a unit, she is a great leader and handles it with ease. When she is in charge, Tricia checks on all of the nurses frequently, reviews patient charts, updates concerned family members, communicates with all members of the healthcare team, etc.
As a preceptor, Tricia teaches our New Grad nurses everything they need to know to be successful as a nurse in the PCU. She works with each one intensely, explaining each aspect of their role, and will make sure they are not put on the floor until they feel confident in their skills. Sometimes she has to show them tough love, but at the same time, she reminds them of how important their job is and how one mistake can be critical. Nurses trained by Tricia have turned out to be some of the best nurses we have. Many have moved on to ICU, ED, and other areas of nursing at different hospitals all thanks to the skills and confidence she has instilled in them.
As a PCU nurse on the floor, Tricia is one of the best. Since the beginning of this pandemic, Tricia has spent probably 800/4 or more of her shifts on the Covid floor, SD. Constantly being pushed to 5 patients in enhanced precautions, having 1-2 CNAs to cover an entire Covid unit; Tricia keeps on going, providing exceptional patient care. She has seen what Covid can do first-hand, she has witnessed the horrors and still chooses to work the Covid unit without hesitation. Tricia has facetimed families for patients so they can see their loved ones one last time, she has performed CPR on far too many patients with Covid, and has held the hand of too many patients, comforting them as they take their last dying breath. I could go on and on about the many amazing qualities that Tricia possesses, but I will stop here. She is truly the definition of a Health Care Hero and a prime example of a DAISY Award Honoree.
