I have received countless compliments and stories of how Patricia has provided the utmost competent and compassionate care.
This RN case manager is a much-respected member of the VNA of Englewood nursing team. In addition to her roles as a case manager and wound-ostomy specialist, this nurse (without hesitation) volunteered to be trained as a COVID-19 swat nurse. Over the last year, I have witnessed this nurse work seamlessly with our other COVID-19 swat nurse to provide expert, patient-centered care to some of the sickest patients the agency has ever seen. This nurse’s calm nature and reassurance have allayed the fears of not only our patients but their families as well. As her manager, I have received countless compliments and stories of how this nurse has provided the utmost competent and compassionate care- each so extremely profound that it is difficult to single out any one patient experience.

In her role as a case manager, our patients know they can depend on her to advocate for them to receive the best care possible. This nurse goes above and beyond in every aspect of caring for her patients. It is very common for this nurse to make evening visits to patients, so their loved ones can learn new ostomy or wound care. As well, she frequently takes time away from her family on the weekend to visit patients that need to learn ostomy and more complicated wound care that require the expertise of a wound RN, a familiar face, and continuity of care. In speaking with her patients, she is frequently described as an “angel on earth”, as she is dedicated and selfless in all that she does.

As a wound-ostomy specialist, she is an amazing resource for the entire VNA nursing team members. This nurse consistently uses evidence-based practice to promote good patient outcomes and collaborates well with the VNA health group wound team. This nurse has an unparalleled thirst for knowledge and keeps up to date with the most current wound practices and care for her patients’ benefit. As a wound-ostomy specialist, this nurse sees our patients on some of their lowest days and is tasked with assisting patients to cope with the changes in their body image. She does so with much respect in order to provide her patients with the best possible quality of life. This nurse is selfless in all that she does and never shies away from additional tasks or responsibilities. It is for these aforementioned reasons that Patricia Mangano is a DAISY Nurse.
