Paula Hicks, RN is the paragon of what nursing is and should be. Her kind soul and wonderful
spirit ecompasses the profession to which she has chosen. She is caregiver.
Not only to her patients but her coworkers. She steps up to the plate routinely
for her fellow nurses and techs.
She often comes in on her days off to celebrate patient birthdays and
her fellow coworkers birthdays, baking treats or cooking food for the festivities
She plans outings, holiday parties and events to keep the unit morale
high. She is well loved by all of those who come into contact with her.
Patient satisfaction is high on her unit and I am certain that she plays a large part that.
One day, she appeared a bit sad and I asked her if she was okay and she explained to me that she had volunteered to take a fetal demise from L&D so that the mother could grieve without having to see the nursery. I know that this loss was very sad the mom but Paula is a mom too and it must have been hard for her. However, she step upped to the challenged in the best interest of the patient.
Lastly, this nurse is participated in the 2009 Mud Run. This is 10 k (6.3 mile)
run through mud and obstacles. It is a team event that she did with her family and friends.
Monies raised by this event goes to American Troups around the world.
She was required to raise a minimum of $40. She has raised
over $495 for our troops. How inspiring. I think she would make a great
representative for Baylor All Saints as a Daisy award Winner.
