Paula took care of me for three days and came to check back on me several days later when I was still here. Paula was more than helpful and went above and beyond expectations. Every time she came into my room, she brought positive energy into the environment. Her personality is exuberant and explodes like a spark plug in a car. She is an extra sunny person and sunshine fills the room when she is visiting. She is always prompt with service whether it is getting ice water or a warm blanket, she does it quickly and with a contagious smile. Throughout my stay she brought laughter and that made me feel better. I think I will go sit in the sunshine when I get released.
I typed this nomination for a patient. The nurse is Paula Stewart from Southeast 1. While I was doing my rounds, I noticed a husband asking for Paula at the nursing station. He brought 3 dozen doughnuts for the nurses but specifically asked for Paula to receive them. I went into the room to inquire further about the care that she received from them. They could not say enough good things about Paula and were so happy, giggly, and smiley when they were talking about her and the care she provided. They said all the nurses were great, but they really loved Paula.

One of the patients on our unit was not getting proper nutrition because the food selection was limited and nothing from the menu was appealing. From a medical standpoint, he needed to improve nutrition in order to get better and important for discharge criteria. Paula talked to the patient and found out what type of food the patient wanted. It was a special breakfast meal from McDonald's. The following day, Paula got up earlier and bought the patient a breakfast meal on her way to work. It brought the family and patient to tears, they were touched that the patient was truly important to Paula and she paid attention to details and the patient's needs.
She truly lived out our service standards and applied it to "every patient every time". It may have seemed like a small and insignificant act but, it showed a big heart and extended the healing ministry of Christ in action. Paula is a new addition to our team, but we are proud to work beside her every day.
