I am a visitor to HHI and had my 92 year old father admitted to Hilton Head Hospital, the night before our vacation ended. We were on the 3rd floor, my father had many medical and physical issues. Peggy took the time to listen to him even though his cleft palate makes speaking difficult. She spoke to him rather than to me even though his hearing is challenging. His mind is fine though and he appreciated her efforts. Besides her excellent nursing care she repeatedly did the many extra tasks to make a very difficult stay in our lives bearable. She gave assistance on directions to the store, post office, etc. She set up appointments with the social worker for discharge planning, speech therapist for swallow evaluation. She kept us updated on doctors notes/visits. She kept us informed on vitals, medications and everything we needed to know. She made sure my dad had extra blankets and pillows as he is frail, fragile, skinny and cold. She added ice cream to his Ensure making him milkshakes so he could/would eat. She mashed his pills in applesauce without him asking every time. Peggy made me feel like dad was her most important patient and that I was not in the way as I spent each night with him.

All in all, Peggy made a special connection in my dad's and my life during an upsetting time. She had a calming influence on our stay. I kept coming up with problems being from out of town and she kept coming up with solutions. She went above and beyond the call of duty.

Many of your employees were also very good and helpful during our stay but Peggy stood out for us!
