This Registered Nurse exemplifies compassion and dedication in the delivery of high quality, safe, and Veteran-Centered care. Through her passion for caring for veterans at the End-of-Life, she becomes the veterans' family when there is no one. She ensures that veterans under her care are comfortable and at peace. She not only cared for our father physically but emotionally and mentally as well. Her caring and compassionate attitude is not only visible to the veteran patient but to the family as well. As the daughter of a veteran, I am very grateful and appreciative of the compassionate care that this nurse provided. I began to develop a relationship with those that surrounded me while visiting my dad, Perla became my favorite. Her compassion and love are rooted deep in her core and that it takes a special kind of person to become a nurse, much less a hospice nurse.
She prayed at the start and end of each of her shifts when caring for my dad and made it a point to get to know my brother and I as well as our children. Her kindness and compassion got us all through some very dark days as my dad was declining. She made sure we all knew how much she loved her job and not only the patients, but her families as well.
