Rachel goes above and beyond every single day. She is always willing to help and will come in if she knows we are understaffed. She never complains but is determined to make sure people around her smile and know how much they are appreciated.
Rachel goes out of her way to take care of her patients, families, and co-workers. She recently picked up a shift at one of the other EDs on her day off because she did not want anyone to work short. A pediatric patient and her mother were there awaiting a bed assignment. You could tell the mother did not have very much with her because the patient was brought in via ambulance in a hurry. The child kept asking for something to eat and the mother would quietly hush her with promises of food later. The mother did not have her shoes and a change of clothes for her or the child. Before the patient and her mother transferred out, they both had toiletries and a change of clothes, and food. The most important thing is they both had a smile from the simple act of compassion and care Rachel provided for this small family that night.
She does not brag about what she does but simply acts. From praying with her families to holding a baby for the mother to take care of personal needs, Rachel always finds the time. This does not stop there; she does this for her friends and her community. You can tell her job is more than a job, but a calling. She is truly a flower in a cactus garden sometimes.
