My wife had a very complicated procedure involving incisions at the groin area and above the knee. After being in her room for a short time she started having excruciating pain at her knee. Rae immediately started investigating possible problems and noted that there was no pulse at my wife's feet. She involved two other nurses to substantiate the lack of pulse and obtained a "Doppler" to perform further tests. This too, verified lack of pulse. She paged the physician who was still at the hospital assisting another operation. The doctor immediately came to the room and checked my wife's vitals and informed us that it was imperative to get her back into an operating room immediately. Failure to act swiftly could result in loss of the leg or worse. He actually helped push the gurney out of the room to an operating room. It was found that there had been leakage in the groin area and clotting had occurred. After finding and removing two clotted areas and "putting her back together" again, she was moved to ICU and was on the road to full recovery. This is all possible due to the quick actions of Rae and MD.

During her stay I saw many very capable and compassionate nurses. What made Rae stand out to me was how quickly she addressed the problem, analyzed the problem and then obtained assistance and verification of the problem and then, the key, she contacted the doctor in a TIMELY manner, which was imperative in correcting a problem that had potential of being very, very serious.

In our household we have discussed her actions and believe she is responsible for my wife being on the mend. She is our hero!
