Dr. Danquah has always been the ED staff member with the right balance of leadership and empathy for our Veterans. In every situation, Dr. Danquah has been able to reassure and regain the confidence of our patients.
I am nominating Dr. Rashidah Danquah for the DAISY Award, for her professionalism, inspirational leadership/personality, and her incomparable companionate patient care. On multiple occasions, I have sought Dr. Danquah's assistance in difficult and complicated situations, and in every situation, she has achieved exceptional and positive results. Here are a few examples:
1. Inspiring Leadership/personality: A patient needed medical assistance from the ED, but was very reluctant and frustrated. After a short discussion and some reassurance, I contacted Dr. Danquah and she willingly came to my office. After a short discussion, the Veteran was escorted to the ED, and a week or so later the Veteran explained his positive experience at the ED and asked me to thank Dr. Danquah.
2. Incomparable Compassionate Patient Care: A patient seeking humanitarian mental health treatment had been evaluated and discharged late in the evening with instructions to return the next morning to be seen in the mental health clinic when they realized their car keys had been locked in their vehicle with no funds for a locksmith or hotel. Without hesitation, Dr. Danquah pulled funds from her purse for the patient to stay at a nearby hotel.
3. Professionalism: During multiple calls from frustrated Veterans in the ED requiring assistance for multiple situations, Dr. Danquah has always been the ED staff member with the right balance of leadership and empathy for our Veterans. In every situation, Dr. Danquah has been able to reassure and regain the confidence of our patients.
Dr. Danquah reflects VA core values, honoring our Veterans by providing exceptional customer service and health care, and is an example of an excellent team player.
