We had just come onto the shift, and we had a patient who had taken a turn for the worst very unexpectedly. The family of this patient wasn't the easiest to work with, and had a hard time grasping the concept of their loved one starting to transition into the process of passing. Renee Johnson was constantly going into the room, assisting and explaining what was happening and what she was doing each time she went in there. Later on in the shift, we knew that it wasn't going to be much longer and was only going to be the patient's significant other in the room. Renee decided to sit in the room with the patient and his significant other as he passed. Renee had sat in there for a while as he started the process of passing. I kept going in to check on Renee and the patient's family just to make sure everything was going well and every time I had gone in, Renee was by the patient's side with his significant other as he passed. Every shift I work with Renee, she exceeds the expectations of the ICU and makes a true connection with patients and their families. Renee is a light in the nursing world and truly makes a difference in all of her patient’s lives.
