Time and time again, Richard has demonstrated what it takes to be a great nurse as well as a great leader. His compassion and devotion to his patients stands out for all to witness. His selflessness and dedication to his team are the foundations that make him an exceptional leader. Richard is always setting an example for others to follow.

When volunteers were needed for COVID vaccination clinics, he was among the first to step forward. Recently we were without a charge nurse, he was quickly chosen to fill that void. Since then, he has increased the proficiency of the department by reviewing and updating hundreds of surgeons' case preference cards in the span of just a few weeks. He is very proactive in improving the patient flow through the OR by coordinating charts, consents and document scanning, and room preparation, cleaning, set up that drastically increasing flow and efficiency. Richard's history of selflessness and helping others is long.

He is a 28-year veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army National Guard that included 2 Combat Deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq where he led Combat Trauma Medics, was in charge of Medical Care Clinics, and led soldiers at multiple locations throughout to theater of operations as their 1st Sergeant. He is also active in his community to make it a better place for everyone. He is a member of the American Legion. He is also an avid cycler and volunteers to work at the annual April Fools Bike Ride. As a member of the Milledgeville Bicycle Club, he worked with community and local leaders to help develop mountain bike trails as well as improving bicycle safety signage in the community. He also volunteers at children's cycling events and teaches bicycle safety. He was also involved with a local community group to help in the development of the new Greenway near the river. Richard sets an example for others to follow.
