Every single time my brother called for him, he was in the room almost immediately. He sets the gold standard for exceptional and compassionate nursing.
My 20-year-old brother, J, was diagnosed with the same auto-immune disorder (ITP) as Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family is responsible for establishing the DAISY Award because of their deep appreciation for the nurses and the compassion shown to Mr. Barnes and his whole family. Family. This compassion is exactly why my brother and I believe that Richard Yawan is the perfect nurse to receive the DAISY Award. Our hospital stay has been filled with uncertain times, scary situations, and small and huge victories. Among the many nurses we had the privilege of working with, Richard has been the embodiment of the care and compassion that the DAISY Award was established to honor. We had the privilege of working with Richard at his side until the bleeding stopped, going the extra mile to make sure standing orders were put into place to ensure that the next time he started bleeding, the nurses could take the necessary steps to stop the bleeding without waiting for the Dr.'s orders, to answering any and every question each of us had. Every single time my brother called for him, he was in the room almost immediately. He sets the gold standard for exceptional and compassionate nursing.
