I am a native of Davis Island, born at Tampa General Hospital and had open heart surgery, removal of tumor. I wanted to recognize one of your nursing staff who went above and beyond her job. Rita Malpedo not only spent 2 hours removing a troublesome central line that was so embedded but she persevered with professionalism and compassion until each suture was removed. She removed other sutures diligently and tried to help me when pain was felt on my back and chest area. She also came back for follow up chest x-rays and continuous to show true interest in her patient. She is highly looked up by her peers who seek her advice and frequently helps them in their needs as well. This is one individual that should not be overlooked. She definitely has a bright future!
