Ritchel was nominated by a patient and a father of a patient. The father described how she comforted him when he was crying for his son. "She could have left us; her shift was long over, but she did not leave until she came over to me to help calm my emotions," he wrote. "A person like Ritchel does not appear in folks' lives every day, but when you see that kind of compassion and demonstration of care, it must be recognized and held up as a role model for others."

A patient also applauded Ritchel's care. "Ritchel is the night nurse who immediately makes you feel cared for with a take-charge attitude. You are completely comfortable with leaving everything in her capable hands. A good atmosphere spreads like wildfire."
