We work up into an emergency, not ready (is anyone?) for the sudden thrust of a medical emergency. The waiting for help to arrive seemed endless. From the moment we arrived on the DOU, Rodney had just been fantastic. "J" can sometimes be a challenge and Rodney immediately set a great tone and environment. He did everything he could, including working with others for my direct benefit. He was very open and good at explaining things and confirming understanding before providing meds or doing any bedside procedure. Being unable to breathe well, making frequent trips to the restroom was not allowed. The urinal created a mess and the first night in the hospital loomed large. Rodney was able to provide a condom catheter. I had never heard of this before and what a lifesaver!!! All his excellent care made me able to focus on the things I needed to do to get better. No matter who or what happened in my room, Rodney was there making sure I was taken care of. He also made sure my fiancé was connected as well, making sure the MDs contacted her regularly. He also exhibited a superior level of competency, empathy, professionalism, levity, and just a huge dose of caring. With Rodney as your RN, you feel almost at home. How much better can it be?
