She went above the job expectations of a nurse and became a shoulder to lean on to cry, a listening ear, and a friend to complete strangers.
I was brought to the ER with severe bleeding and excruciating pain and was admitted. I suffer from PTSD and have severe anxiety. I was scared and in pain. I felt so lost and abandoned my anxiety was thru the roof not to mention what my body was putting me thru at the moment. I was admitted and my night nurse was Rosalia Pia. Mrs. Pia saw my tears and fear, quickly grabbed my hand telling me she was there with me and that I wasn’t going to be alone. She tended to my medical needs and helped calm me enough to get thru what was happening to me. What I didn’t understand she helped clarify (I have issues with grasping what doctors explain sometimes but she made sure I understood.) It was like she understood me fully and knew exactly how to help people like me (a person with mental health issues dealing with very scary physical issues).

I was admitted for four days and three nights, and as the days went on, I saw that she did this for all her patients. I saw other nurses and techs slacking letting call lights go off and saw her, the only nurse, running to each room, I saw her at least two of those nights her going without her break because her patients needed her, all three nights I saw her eating on the fly because she didn’t have time to sit and eat. She took care of multiple people dealing with all types of ailments and treated everyone with respect. She showed compassion and empathy, and she did it with not one complaint and with a smile. She made jokes making us laugh.

It was like she put herself in her patients’ shoes and treated each one as she herself would have wanted to be treated. She went above the job expectations of a nurse and became a shoulder to lean on to cry, a listening ear, and a friend to complete strangers. Rosalia Pia has a pure golden heart and I just want to recognize her kindness.

I am low income but the care I received from Mrs. Pia on the days I was hospitalized made me feel I was a VIP. I don’t have much as in gift giving to show appreciation, but her bosses should know that she is a treasure, and they are lucky to have her as an employee.
