Ruth is the prime example of a DAISY Nurse. She is the kind of nurse who takes the extra step and five more to help where she can with patients and team members. She is the nurse you can always count on in an emergency to show up to help. She is the nurse that people make comments about how well she has treated them. She is a devout Christian who works her faith into her care provided to those who need an extra prayer or an ear to listen. There have been many times that I have leaned on Ruth for guidance and support during my time working with her at FarWest.

I can think of two times where she has had the most impact on me. The first time was when I had my first code. I was lost on what to do and Ruth came in to help and we helped get our patient stable till the doctor and other team members could come in. Another time I can think of was when I was at work and going through hard times in my personal life. It really affected my work and my spirit that day. Ruth sat me down, talked me through things, and guided me to a calmer place to get through the shift. I do not think I could name a better person more deserving of this award than Ruth Mwangi. She is the prime example of a nurse guided by god’s hands in her work and surroundings.
