He showed respect and sympathy for me and my family and was definitely one of the main reasons why I felt I had a great support system the minute I walked into the emergency room.
We had only known we were expecting our first little one for 6 weeks. But as any mother knows, there is a love that is hard to describe from the moment you find out about your little one. We were over the moon excited! Then our world changed. I came into the emergency department for bleeding and cramping at 11 weeks pregnant. I remember sitting in the waiting room praying and asking God for a healthy baby, but the minute I walked into the room, I had a spontaneous miscarriage. I don't remember much of what happened because I was in shock, but I do remember how great my nurse was. Salim wasn't even supposed to be my nurse, but he was the first one to come into the room when I started bleeding and when my baby fell on the floor. I remember him trying to comfort me throughout the whole time I was there. I remember him trying to get me back to bed and saying, "WHAT HAPPENED IS NOT YOUR FAULT." At a moment like that, that is all you need to hear. He was trying his best to keep me as comfortable as possible. Most importantly, he let me stay as long as I wanted with my baby. He did not see me as a patient losing a fetus. He saw a mother losing her first child and all of her hopes with it. He went above and beyond for me explaining everything that happened and the next steps, he contacted pastoral services for me and my partner.
At the end of his shift, he came to say goodbye to me, told me how sorry he felt about everything, and asked if there was anything else he could do for me. He gave me the best patient care, and I strongly believe he needs to be recognized for it. In situations like these, I think any woman would prefer a female nurse, but I am beyond grateful for having Salim as my nurse that day. Although the results were not what I was expecting, Salim's kindness, knowledge, and skilled passion for my well being made a huge impression on me and my family. He stood out as a nurse who was willing to do everything in his power to make my situation less painful.
When I think about the day I lost my first child, sad memories run through my mind but I also think about the nurse I had and how I couldn't have asked for a better one. He was kind and thoughtful. He showed respect and sympathy for me and my family and was definitely one of the main reasons why I felt I had a great support system the minute I walked into the emergency room. Thank you for everything you did for me. May God bless you and your family and don't ever forget the huge impact you made on the day I miscarried.
