I was recently a patient in the hospital. I was admitted for leg and hip pain from recent knee surgery. I needed an MRI for my lower back for possible impeding neurosurgery. Due to the high volume of the ER services and other patients, I waited over 2 and a half days to finally get my MRI and met numerous wonderful doctors, nurses, and support personnel. But, I'd like to single out one of your RNs for special consideration. Her name is Samantha, and she works 7a-7p shift on her floor. Samantha almost always had a student nurse with her observing and learning under her direction. I watched Samantha each day do her job in the most professional of manners. I watched her interactions with my roommate, who was an 81 yo with serious health conditions. They were confused a bit and wanted to do things on their own. Samantha told them that she'd have to help them so they would not get hurt trying to take care of themselves. Samantha kept calling to see where I was on the MRI list, and she kept me informed every day. She knew how I worried about the possibility of having back surgery. I think Samantha is an amazing asset to your facility, and we'd all be better off if we had more nurses like Samantha as hospital staff. Samantha should be considered for this special honor due to her professionalism, care, and her overall attitude about her job, coworkers, and the patients she serves.
