Sandy's work ethic is exemplary and should be held as an example for all nurses especially as a mentor to new nurses. She gives selflessly and with a smile when asked for assistance and offers her time and talents graciously without complaint. Her role within the Colorectal Program is indispensable. Sandy advocates tirelessly for our patients and is driven by an unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality care. She is admired and appreciated by all who work with her, especially with the interdisciplinary team that can consist of the residents, nutrition, physical therapy, and ID. Her communication skills allow information, data, concerns and assessments to be relayed efficiently and with compassion. Sandy bridges gaps that may evolve in a large healthcare system with multiple services, respectively. She is open to evidence based practice when presented to her regarding wound and ostomy care and assists in the implementation of this evidence and assists in obtaining doctor buy-in. Sandy will always put what's best for the patient first and will work with the team for quality outcomes. Sandy helped with a very complex ostomy patient whose length of stay was over two months. She was willing to assist with ostomy care and wound care, assisted with helping decrease patient and family anxiety and communicating with the various services that were needed in order to provide a safe and effective discharge. The management of this patient's care could have been stressful but Sandy's assistance and coordination were a crucial component of maintaining patient safety and patient satisfaction. She appreciates her healthcare team and doesn't take any of us for granted. Sandy is a positive force in an environment that is surrounded by illness of the body and mind and provides a respite for patients and staff. She participates in the CADC (Center for Advanced Digestive Care) Cluster committee that provides an open forum to discuss areas in need of improvement and keeps the team up to date on accomplishments. It's a dynamic committee that works on moving patient care forward. Her input is valuable and appreciated. Sandy presented a talk on Laparoscopic surgery at the Pete Stevens Innovations in Digestive Care. Personally, I am grateful to work with such a caring and compassionate nurse. I was new to NYP five years ago and she was welcoming and made me feel appreciated as I adjusted to my new life in NYC and NYP. I will be forever grateful for Sandy's commitment and contribution to nursing, especially with our ostomy patients who are often stigmatized, and I wish her all the best in her nursing career.
