Sandy took care of me the most while I received my chemo treatments. I turned those chemo days into "Spa days", with the many nice things that Sandy and others did for me. I came to really enjoy those days spent with Sandy and the staff of the Gynecological/Oncology Center.
Clearly, Sandy is an expert about her work. She has a delightful ability to distract her patients from what the day is really about. She made sure to introduce all those receiving treatment. While tending to serious business of the medicine, she kept the atmosphere light. The experience was pleasant and felt like a bunch of friends getting together. That so helped the mental side of healing. It helped me to not dread those days. I knew I could ask Sandy for anything, even a hug. I am so appreciative for all she did for me and will really miss her!

Sandy Lunsford has provided excellent care for our patients at MVH for many, many years. Sandy started as an LPN on the Advanced Care Unit where I was her nurse manager. She earned her RN license and became an expert IV therapist. In 2008 I reconnected with Sandy in a new way. She was my chemo infusion nurse at the cancer center.
When you are in the infusion center you will always see Sandy sharing her expertise in drug and disease information with her patients. Her experience and skill from years of starting IVs as a therapist, have proven to be very valuable. No one can start an IV better and unfortunately chemo is not kind to our veins. Sandy is outstanding in her ability to start these difficult IVs as well as drawing labs.
As you go for your treatment, Sandy and her coworkers make you feel welcome, if that is even possible, considering why you are there. You are introduced to the other patients and develop genuine concern and care about their journey with cancer.
Sandy, you are the best and truly demonstrate the qualities of a DAISY Nurse!
