Sandy Meikle has always been
extraordinary in the way she
cares about her patients and her
co-workers. Extraordinary, but
modest. Even on her day off,
Sandy took time to be present for
a friend’s procedure in the Cath
Lab. This “friend” was actually a
patient whom Sandy had helped
during an RRT call. His AICD had fired, and
he was very scared. In her professional, kind and
compassionate way, Sandy reassured him in such a
way that was truly a blessing for him right at that
moment. When he was transferred to Telemetry,
his family still sought out Sandy for reassurance.
She stayed with them for more than 10 hours.
They told stories, laughed and prayed for a safe
and positive outcome. Now they are all friends.
Sandy still keeps up on his progress at Stanford
Medical Center and offers her support. Says the
nominator, “I am reminded of what a blessing it
is to work with Sandy every day. She is a model
of what we all would like to be – a kind, giving,
generous person.”
Congratulations, Sandy!
