I recognize Sara Johnson today not for just doing her job but for how she did it. I could not have made the progress I did without her exceptional insight and understanding of me as a patient. Let me explain.....I have suffered from high blood pressure since my days as a young man serving in Vietnam over 50 years ago. Since then, I have been dreading taking my blood pressure because it was frequently high. I doubted I would benefit from Rehab. On my first day, Sara took my blood pressure, which was elevated as I had expected. She didn’t react or cause me to react. She simply told me to sit down and brought me a glass of water. Her immediate calmness and kindness meant something. As the days continued, Sara was supportively encouraging as my numbers improved. My pressure recently has been consistently the lowest it has been in my whole life. I think it has everything to do with Sara’s instruction and, equally important, her manner (calmness, smile, positive attitude, upbeat spirit, belief in me). She is an exceptional nurse because she understands nursing and individual patient care.
