Sara Leibrandt, RN, from the Mercy Campus Critical Care Unit, is the DAISY Award honoree this month. The Clinical Educator for the unit nominated Sara for her extraordinary compassion on behalf of a patient.
The patient had been hospitalized and on dialysis for three weeks. Dialysis required the patient to be in bed but Sara, seeing how desperate the patient was to get up for just a few moments, took it upon herself to add several hours to her work load by flushing and stopping the dialysis treatment and then restarting it so the patient could get up. Sara saw that this patient’s emotional health depended on a brief moment of mobility. Sara truly demonstrated the Mercy Health Partners mission…to heal body, mind, and spirit.
