I can't think of a time when Sarah has not been an incredible nurse. She can be having one of the worst shifts but will still greet her patients and oncoming staff with a smile. On this particular day, I had come in early to round on some patients and I overheard two nurses speaking of the situations Sarah had faced that shift. I then heard Sarah on the phone advocating for a patient who had not been assigned an admitting physician and another physician was refusing the patient. This specific patient had surgery that day and was not receiving adequate pain control. Sarah did not stop until she was able to meet her patient's needs. Another employee had approached me to tell me that she also had a very angry, aggressive and difficult patient to deal with as this patient was alert and oriented to his self. I am sure Sarah was frustrated, to say the least. However, you would never know it. Sarah is always willing to help others regardless of her workload. She is definitely a team player and an asset to our unit. Along with being a great nurse, Sarah is also part of our UGC to help advocate for our staff as well as our patients. We truly feel she is more than extraordinary and a true DAISY Nurse.
