Right from the first time we met, Scottie stood out from the other nurses. She was friendly and outgoing. She greeted me with a smile as though we had already met. She made me comfortable, explained my procedure, and what was to take place.
During my stay, I was to undergo the 4-day Tikosyn cardioversion to try to correct my a-fib heart rate. The doctor told me it only had a 60-70% success rate and if the Tikosyn didn't work, I would have another cardioversion (I've had 5!). Scottie gave me my first Tikosyn pill. She was also with me the next, all day, and gave me my second and third pill.
Then she went above and beyond. Scottie informed me that she would be off Thursday but would return Friday, though she would probably not be my nurse. Before she left my room, she turned and said the most compassionate and uplifting words of encouragement to me that seemed calming and positive, and made me feel as though things looked good. She told me to just pretend that I was on vacation, think good thoughts, and everything was going to be all right.
I went back to normal rhythm on Thursday; I believe Scottie's talk made the difference. I told her she gave me the pill that changed my life.
