While coming out of anesthesia after a triple bypass open heart surgery, I met my nurse. I was having a panic attack, and he recognized it instantly. I needed to get my breathing tube out, or so I thought. He got right up in my face and told me everything was going to be okay. He shared with me that he also had open heart surgery, and this was normal. His entire approach seemed to be focused on making sure that I remained calm, and he kept me calm by telling me stories of his own experience with what I was going through. He is a consummate professional that every single patient at Waterman would be lucky to have as their nurse. He is the reason why I recovered so well.
