She really made us feel like we were family instead of patients and that she really cared. I can honestly tell she loves doing her job and helping people.
My son’s nurse Shalawn (Shay) treated us with excellent care. She took the time to hear the way I feel, my concerns with my son’s health and issues and the things that I wanted to ask questions about and get the answers to. She went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and aware. Anything I asked for, she took the time, if it was in her power to do she did it. Shalawn spoke directly with doctors about my son’s medication and made sure that the things that we were most worried about were taken care of, from medicine to food to water to just listening to us. She really made us feel like we were family instead of patients and that she really cared. I can honestly tell she loves doing her job and helping people.

During our visit to the ER, we waited for many hours, which was expected. Once we finally got placed in a room, we had the pleasure of meeting Shalawn. She was very attentive and welcomed us with the brightest smile. She took time to explain every step in our care when questioned. At that point, the hours we waited did not even matter. Her caring attitude towards us was outstanding. Shalawn is definitely an asset to the Emergency Room. She is a wonderful nurse! She is more than deserving of this award.

On a visit to the emergency room with my family member, Shalawn was our nurse. She was definitely a breath of fresh air. Her warm smile welcomed us, and she provided the best care that I could ever imagine to my brother. She also treated me as if I were the patient. We never had any worrying questions, because Shalawn took the necessary time to explain and answer any of our questions to the best of her ability. Even with the emergency room being so hectic at this time, Shalawn took the necessary time to do the simplest things for us such as bringing us blankets, water, and something to eat even when we did not ask for them. The care that she provided was so extraordinary we wanted her to come up to the floor to continue to be our nurse when my brother was admitted. She is very deserving of this award and many others. She is definitely an amazing person and nurse!
